Advice for first-time buyers...
Buying a paintball marker, unfortunately, is not as simple as handing over the money and taking home the gun. A paintball marker is considered a firearm under Australian law and as such, there are a couple of regulations to go through in order to purchase your own marker. Simply put, this is what you must do before buying any paintball gun...
First of all, you must be over 18 to own any firearm, including a paintball marker
You must have a valid firearm licence in the state that you live, with a category that covers the ownership of paintball markers.
To obtain a firearms licence:
- Go to your local police station and fill in a firearms licence application form
- Wait for the Police-Firearms letter with information about Firearms cources
Book yourself into a firarms course and attend
- You'll need a "Permit to Aquire" for each marker you intend to buy
- Permits can also be obtained from any police station
Lastly, you need an approved safe case to store your gun in, as stated on the firearms licence application form.
